Lambs that survive lambing, initially do well, but then, once weaned their growth rate slows down, they seems to go backwards, and don’t finish until winter time. They seem to melt away at weaning even though their up to their bellies in grass. Selenium, cobalt, iodine and copper are all production limiters if not supplemented properly. Over a grazing period all four elements can become deficient in grass, especially so in rapidly growing grass. How can we supplement selenium cobalt iodine and copper in a cost effective way over the summer period?

Bolusing with the tracesure range of boluses will help. They last up to six months. Copper can be eliminated or added depending on the breed of ewe and its susceptibility to copper poisoning. By bolusing ewes mid pregnancy with the boluses, lambs are born with good levels of the elements contained in the boluses. They are further supplemented via the ewe’s milk until weaning. Once lambs are ruminating, say at 8 to 10 weeks of age they can also be bolused.
